Description

Yashwantgad Fort, located in Vengurla Taluka, is a lesser-known but historically rich hill fort that offers a perfect blend of nature, history, and panoramic views. Perched on a hill near Redi Village, the fort lies close to the Maharashtra-Goa border and is surrounded by dense forests and sea vistas, making it an ideal destination for offbeat explorers and heritage lovers.

Built in the 18th century by the Marathas, Yashwantgad Fort was originally a lookout post and a strategic defense structure guarding the southernmost coast of Konkan. Later, it came under the control of the British East India Company, who added some modifications to the structure. Despite being in ruins today, the fort walls, bastions, and remnants of gates still showcase the strength and planning behind its construction.

Reaching the fort involves a short but scenic uphill trek through a forest trail, where travelers are greeted by chirping birds, butterflies, and wild flora. Once at the top, the views are breathtaking—the shimmering Arabian Sea on one side, lush greenery on the other, and Redi Beach visible in the distance.

The atmosphere is serene, with minimal crowds, making it a perfect spot for photography, history exploration, and peaceful time amidst nature. Though the fort is not commercialized, it is being considered for restoration under heritage tourism plans. Local villagers are helpful, and basic guidance is available near the Redi Ganapati Temple, which lies nearby.

The Redi Beach, Redi Ganesh Temple, and Shiroda Beach are all close to Yashwantgad and can be included in the same day’s itinerary for a coastal and cultural experience.
