Description
Purnagad is a small fort situated at the confluence of the Muchkundi river and the Arabian sea. It was one of the important forts from Kanhoji Angres Navy. Purnagad fort is constructed by Kanhoji Angre in 1724. The fort is of moderate
Size of 2 acres, with fortification consisting seven bastions and two gateways. Fort has the remains of the Killedar’s residence, Shiva Temple and other two buildings. There was no water facility inside the fort. There are very few small forts of this type built by Marathas and this fort is a good surviving specimen of this type. Fortification and bastions of Purnagad are well-maintained. A Maruti Idol can be seen near the main entrance. Sculptures of the Sun, the Moon, and Lord Ganesha are crafted on the door frame. Well-placed windows in the fortification offer a grand panoramic view of the Arabian Sea, Muchkundi River, and Gavkhadi Beach. A set of stairs and doors leads to the Purnagad beach. This fort was one of the trading centers on the western shore. This fort is situated at a distance of 7kms from Pawas

One can reach the fort with the help of local vehicles or their own. There is a road through the village, where one can climb the fort in 20 minutes
