Puranpoli

Puran Poli is a classic Maharashtrian festive dish, particularly popular during Holi, Gudi Padwa, and Diwali. It is a stuffed sweet flatbread made with chana dal (Bengal gram) and jaggery filling, seasoned with cardamom and nutmeg, enclosed in a thin wheat dough and roasted on a tawa with ghee.

This dish is deeply rooted in the culture of both rural and urban Maharashtra. It signifies celebration, abundance, and hospitality. In traditional households across Pune, Satara, Nagpur, and Solapur, Puran Poli is an essential part of celebratory meals.

Puran Poli is not only a festive treat but also a nutritional dish, offering protein from lentils and energy from jaggery. Its preparation often involves community or family participation, symbolizing unity and cultural heritage across various castes and communities.
