Description

Lokmaya Tilak, a great freedom fighter of India, was born in 1802 at Ratnagiri. He & his family lived in this house as a tenant for the first 10 years of his life. It is converted into a museum by authorities. Keshav Gangadhar Tilak, famous as Bal Gangadhar Tilak, was an independence activist, from the famous trio of freedom fighters fondly called ‘Lal Bal and Pal’. He was raised till ten years at this house, though his actual birthplace is in Mumbai. He was famous for his aggressive activities against British rule

Located in the city center, this building is a typical Konkani structure, preserved by authorities. The earthen floor with ‘Shensada’ is still preserved as it was. Lokmanya Tilak statue is built at the entrance. Every year his birth anniversary is celebrated here. His old photos, press clippings, and many items used by Shri Lokmanya Tilak are preserved and exhibited in the building. Copy of Kesari, the newspaper published by Lokmanya Tilak, various articles written by him and his entire journey is on display
